Leaks for Sony’s next-generation console PlayStation 5 continues, which is expected to be released in 2020. News about the design of the console attracted great interest and curiosity by the gaming world.
A patent application filed with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) by Dutch-based LeT’s Go Digital, reveals the possible design of the console.
For the patent application named ”unknown electronic device”, Yasuhiro Ootori, who was involved in the design process of the PlayStation 4, saying the device could be considered a game console.
The most interesting part of the device is the “V” shaped cove on the top of the case. This detail, which may be considered as a reference to the number 5 in Roman numerals, may also be a solution for cooling the hardware that would power the console more comfortably.
It is also rumored that the device is a developer kit, as the design is quite outside of the usual console designs. Because it is known that game developers are taking delivery of these kits for the console that will be released in 2020. A large amount of USB input found in the published image is one of the most important elements that reinforce the thesis that the design may belong to a developer kit.
It is a known fact that the difference between hardware designs reaches to the end-user and developer kits are often different. But developer kits are also devices without any custom designs. For this reason, deciding which version of the PS5 will be published to the user is not as easy as it seems.
