PUBG Corps has just revealed that the mobile version of their world-class hit PUBG finally reached 600 million downloads across all regions. This is just a matter of time, as the game is really popular in India, China, and the whole of Asia overall, some of the biggest population centers in the world.
The number of downloads for PUBG Mobile are much higher than PC and console versions. While the mobile version of PUBG has managed to maintain its success, the PC version has struggled to do so.
The PC and console versions of PUBG only had around 50 million players in July 2018. This means the mobile version far exceeds the total number of players on other systems.
In May/June of 2019, the PUBG Mobile was averaging more than a 100 Million active users monthly and had become the highest grossing mobile game in the world. However, with Tencent launching a new skinned version called Game for Peace in China to work with local laws, the numbers for PUBG Mobile has actually come down because of internal competition. In August of 2019, the game was averaging 20-30 Million monthly active users in India and 13 Million daily active users. This effectively means that India is the region with the most players, almost one-fourth the total player base, which also is a widely known fact.
The first releases of PUBG Mobile were published in February last year, starting in China and then expanding in the West a month later. Since then, players from all over the world have tried it, giving rise to a thriving eSport scene, just like in the main game and in other Battle Royale titles like Fortnite.
Pokemon GO or PUBG Mobile?
That title is still held by Pokemon Go with over 1 billion downloads. As of now, PUBG Mobile is the third most downloaded smartphone game in the world. This, however, can likely change in the future as the company is not planning on stopping anytime soon. Recently, the company announced that it will be organizing an esports tournament that will have a total prize pool of $5 million.
